Default Laptop users, please read!

We are experiementing with a new technique for controlling startup and shutdown of laptops. The technique requires the laptop to conform to the new requirement for "Wake-on-Link" (NOT Wake-on-LAN") on your ethernet interface. We are interested in how many laptops support this feature. We would like to get your comments on what type of laptop you have and whether it supports Wake-on-Link. You can find this feature under
DeviceManager->NetworkAdapters->YourEthernetAdapter->Properties->Advanced
In the Advanced tab look for Wake-on-Link (see below)

We would appreciate your feedback....!

I have a Aspire 5100 Laptop. It's a dual core amd turion setup with a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Series Network card. it supports Wake on link just fine.

But get this. The laptop that I use on my car. An HP ZE2000 with the same Realtek RTL8139 Chip but it does not support Wake On Link. It might have to do with my driver/install on it.

Heres where things get interesting. If I click on the power management tab it has "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" Available. So I dunnol.

good to know. I was ready to jump on the purchase but everyone ran out. I was contemplating another setup but I can wait that long. So all is good.

I'll try updating my drivers on the carpc laptop and see if it then supports WOL

Update. My HP ze2308wm (actual model number) Supports wake on link after a driver update. It was running generic microsoft drivers before that.

The specsheets of the 810/8139 all support wake on link. Most laptops use this(Except some intel based solutions) network card.

Usually a driver update is all thats needed.

Quick question. These programmable jumpers. Will it just be a firmware update or will it be something like a version 3.0 of the board?

Small, inexpsive resistors mounted in a small jumper that mounts on JP1 of your existing board.

I have two laptops that I checked:

Compaq Evo N410c
Mitac 8599

Neither supports wake-on-link. Of course I will be the first to admit that the N410c is an older unit, and the Mitac is not a big name manufacturer.

I'll search for driver updates to see if support has been added on either of these machines.
